Abstract
This paper examines how learning about local social injustices in a college mathematics course develops undergraduate students’ mathematical identity, intellect, skill, and criticality. Drawing on data from a precalculus classroom at a predominantly white institution, we analyze how place-based social justice contexts shape students’ engagement with and sense of belonging in mathematics.
